Test for Prospective Lifeguards / First Time Applicants

Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Tryouts
Working hard to earn a spot!

Sea Isle City Beach Patrol's 2024 test for prospective lifeguards will be given Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9. Those wishing to tryout should report to beach patrol headquarters at 44th Street and the Promenade between 8:45 AM and 9:15 AM.

The Saturday morning segment will include a mile run on the Promenade and a half mile ocean swim with a rescue torpedo. The Saturday afternoon portion will consist of a personal interview for applicants who meet beach patrol qualification standards in the run and swim. Candidates still being considered after the interview will be timed in a 500 meter (550 yards) pool swim Sunday morning, June 9. The final element of testing will be a simulated surf rescue. This surf rescue will consist of a 220 yard run along the beach, a sprint through the surf, and a short 20 yard swim to a flag.

All applicants must submit the required paperwork (see below) before they are permitted to participate in the test for prospective lifeguards.*  Only the 2024 Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Medical Certification Form will be accepted as medical clearance.

Note that prospective lifeguards must be at least sixteen years of age on test day.

At the city's expense, candidates who are eighteen years of age or older are required to signup for a background check.  The link will be provided when all paper work has been submitted.

It is recommended that applicants contact the beach patrol's recruiting officer, Lieutenant Mike Farley, to gain a greater understanding of the tryout process.  Contact Mike at mfarley@seaislecitynj.us to schedule an in person or telephone interview.

Required paperwork can be electronically scanned and emailed to rsteele@seaislecitynj.us or mailed (do not hand deliver to City Hall) to Chief Renny Steele 233 JFK Boulevard, Sea Isle City, NJ 08243.  Do not mail paperwork after Monday, June 3. Paperwork mailed after that date may not be received by Friday, June 7. This would prevent you from participating in the test for prospective lifeguards.  A third option is to hand deliver paperwork to beach patrol headquarters between the hours of 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM.  Please note that beach patrol headquarters opens for business on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend.  ALL PAPER WORK IS DUE BY 3:00 PM ON FRIDAY, JUNE 7.

* All blue shaded sections of the required paperwork should be typed; not hand written.  Complete the paperwork on a desktop or laptop computer.  A smartphone will not allow for editing.
